Matthew 7:11 “So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him.”
My whole life I knew who God was. It wasn’t an intellectual understanding of who He was, but experiencing Him through seeing Him move.
I grew up in a single-parent home with my bright-eyed young mother doing everything she could to follow the Lord’s will and raise me to the best of her ability. Due to the instability of her work, we were often lacking in a lot of areas, but being five years old, I really didn’t notice. It wasn’t uncommon that after a day of panicked looks and tears that she had been trying to hide, she would run and tell me how the Lord had provided for us. This became so normal to me that it didn’t shock me when we had food, a new car, or a new stuffed animal. From a young age, God showed me that He is the Provider.
However, this past week, I was confronted with the realization that God not only desires to give me what I need, but He also loves to give me what I desire.
God led me to Psalm 37:4“Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you your heart’s desires.”
I’ve had only a partial view of who God is. I put Him in a box, believing that He would only give me what I needed when I needed it. But God is a father and a very good one at that. Not only does He love giving us gifts, He already has given us the greatest gift, His son; And He has so many more gifts waiting for us in Heaven.
So if seeing the Lord as the Provider of your needs and desires is something that you struggle with, look to these verses Matthew 7:11 and Psalm 37:4, and ask the Father to show this aspect of Himself to you.
